Hi Wit!
I've been thinking lately about excavation.
Not the glamorous kind with Indiana Jones and ancient artifacts.
The kind where you stand in your own creative backyard with a shovel and wonder, "Now where did I put that spark?"
Because if you're anything like me, there are seasons when your voice feels clear and alive...and seasons when it feels buried under responsibilities, expectations, self-doubt, comparison, laundry, email, and whatever mysterious force causes us to suddenly reorganize a junk drawer instead of writing.
So this summer, I'm starting something called Voice Excavation.
It's a 12-week journey inspired by Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, designed to help us uncover (or recover) our creative spark, our passion, our purpose, and the unique voice that only we can bring to the page.
Not because it's gone, but because it's buried.
And buried things can be found.
In fact, some of the most valuable treasures are.
This will be a small group experience, and I'll share more details soon. For now, I'm simply planting a flag in the ground and saying:
The digging begins July 1.
This week's tiny excavation:
Take five minutes and answer this question without overthinking it:
"What did I love to create before I started worrying whether I was good at it?"
Write down whatever comes.
No judgment. No analysis. Just clues.
Excavations are built one shovel-full at a time.
Happy writing! 🎒🗺️⛏️
P.S. If your answer involves dragons, horses, terrible poetry, imaginary worlds, or stapling together homemade books, you're in excellent company. Mine definitely wasn't "learning how to write marketable fiction." 😉
